FAQ

What does the Dronetag Mini 4G do?

The Mini 4G is a real-time drone tracker. Attached to almost any drone, it streams live position and telemetry over the cellular network to the Dronetag App, so you can follow a flight from any phone, tablet or browser, anywhere there is mobile coverage. It also broadcasts Remote ID over Bluetooth, so the same device keeps you compliant while it tracks.

How is a tracker different from a plain Remote ID module?

A basic Remote ID module only broadcasts a short-range Bluetooth signal to receivers within about 3 km. The Mini 4G adds cellular tracking on top of that, sending your drone's position to the cloud over effectively unlimited distance. You get live tracking and situational awareness, not just local compliance.

How does the live tracking work, and how far does it reach?

Tracking runs over 4G LTE cellular networks through a built-in SIM. Wherever there is mobile coverage, range is effectively unlimited, so you can follow a drone far beyond line of sight. Where there is no coverage, the Bluetooth Remote ID signal still reaches nearby receivers up to 3 km.

Do I need a subscription to track my drone?

Live cellular tracking and the cloud features run on a connectivity subscription, with plans from €15 / $15 per month and the first two months free. The Direct/Broadcast Remote ID over Bluetooth works without any subscription, so you stay compliant even if you do not subscribe, but the tracking and telemetry need an active plan.

Can I track a whole fleet, or share a flight with my team?

Yes. Every Mini 4G reports into the Dronetag App, so a coordinator can watch several drones at once, replay past flights, and export the logs. This is what makes the Mini 4G suitable for fleet coordination, BVLOS operations, and keeping teams aware of one another in shared airspace.

Can I send the tracking data into my own systems?

Yes. Position and telemetry are available through the Dronetag API (REST and WebSocket) and existing integrations, so you can feed a UTM, a command dashboard, or a third-party C-UAS platform. You decide where your drone data goes.

How long can it track on a single charge?

Up to 10 hours depending on configuration, which covers a full day of flying. You can also power it straight from the drone for continuous operation.

Which drones does it work with, and how do I attach it?

The Mini 4G works with almost any drone. It weighs 36 g and fastens with the included 3M Dual Lock. Attach it, power on, take off, and your drone is visible in under two minutes.

Is the Mini 4G still Remote ID compliant?

Yes. Alongside tracking, it broadcasts Direct/Broadcast Remote ID and supports Network Remote ID, meeting FAA (USA), EASA (EU), CAAS (Singapore) and CAA (UK) requirements. Tracking and compliance come from the same device.

Who can see my drone's location?

Your flight data is yours. It is protected in transit with DTLS encryption and you control who you share it with through the app and integrations. Direct/Broadcast Remote ID broadcasts, by design, share the basic required identification with nearby authorized receivers.

Can I use my own SIM card?

Yes. The Mini 4G ships with a Dronetag-managed chip-SIM so it works out of the box, and it has a nano-SIM slot if you prefer to run your own carrier. Either way an active subscription is required – it covers the cloud features and Network RID in the Dronetag App, not just mobile data.

What countries are supported, and is there roaming?

The Mini 4G ships in regional hardware variants tuned to local cellular bands and Remote ID rules, including separate US and EU builds, so pick the one for your region. Roaming is enabled by default. Because tracking depends on cellular coverage, check your operating area on the Dronetag coverage map before you buy. The full country list is at help.dronetag.com.
